2007 CSA Signup

This year we are again offering a full season CSA. It will run 25 weeks, beginning mid-May. The cost is $15 per week. (Half shares are $7.50) We will also have a flower share available that lasts 21 weeks with a somewhat flexible start/end time. All of our produce and flowers are certified organic.

What is a CSA??

CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Customers purchase shares in the farm, and in return receive a basketful of produce each week, picked fresh that day. CSA pick up times will be Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, depending whether you pick up at the farm or at a drop-off site in Champaign-Urbana. It’s slightly up in the air right now.

What can one expect? 2007 Crop List

The early part of the season will consist of spring greens (salad mix, spinach, baby chard, sorrel), strawberries, asparagus, radishes, and other cool weather crops. This is generally followed by peas, beets, scallions, fresh onions, broccoli and cabbage. Around mid July, you’ll start seeing tomatoes, peppers, green beans, cukes, basil, eggplant, onions, garlic and new potatoes. Come Fall, there will be full size potatoes, squash, and a mix of warm and cool weather crops depending on weather. There will be some type of fresh herb (and hopefully salad mix) each week. If we can foil the deer, there should be some raspberries, peaches, apples, and blueberries thrown in the mix as well.

Flower shares will start out with bunches of sweet peas or peonies, followed with iris, Asiatic lily, oriental lily, or sunflowers. In between these crops we’ll have informal mixed flower bouquets, consisting of varieties like snaps, zinnias, salvia, coneflower, daisies, statice or whatever else is in season. Flower shares end with a dried flower arrangement, two weeks before veggie shares end.

Why such early signup?

We are busy trying to plan our field maps and order seed. Your response now will allow us to plan for the extra produce. Most of our expense/work to produce a crop is incurred before mid-June. Therefore, we request a $35 deposit to hold your space, with the balance either paid by April 1^st or half paid by April 1^st and half by May 1^st.
